Linux Networx has announced that AISIN AW Co., one of the leading providers of automotive transmissions, is using a Linux Networx Supersystem to enhance product design efforts. The new system is tuned for use with ANSYS CFX and accelerates AISIN's ability to develop new transmissions by allowing them to more easily and efficiently analyze complex fluid flows. The Linux Networx Supersystem enables AISIN to minimize the reliance on testing actual prototypes by giving them the power to more easily and efficiently simulate designs. This results in faster time-to-market, reduced cost-to-market and the development of safer and higher quality transmissions for customers including Toyota, Audi, Volkswagen and Volvo.
"Linux Networx Supersystems deliver industry-leading price performance making the choice easy for us," said Takeshi Yamaguchi, senior specialist, simulation development group at AISIN. "Automotive companies need to develop new cars within a year. That gives us just a few months to design, test and deliver new transmissions. With the new system from Linux Networx we can cut the number of actual prototypes and produce new transmissions in just a few months."
"We are pleased that our systems are able to immediately go into production to help AISIN design new, high quality products for Toyota and others," said Bo Ewald, CEO of Linux Networx. "We are focused on delivering systems that power unrivaled price/performance value for key design workflows and applications, coupled with production-ready delivery that reduces Total Cost of Ownership. Price/performance, total cost of ownership and production readiness are the key reasons why our industrial customer base is growing so quickly."
The system gives AISIN the power to accelerate the simulation and optimization of new product designs, resulting in reduced product development time, faster time-to-market and enhanced return on investment. The system is primarily used to model fluid flow in transmission designs with the goal of producing transmissions that transfer the most power, at exactly the right moment, from the engine to the wheels. In addition the system is used for temperature analysis, to study thermodynamics, to determine when and where cavitations happen in order to minimize their occurrence and to analyze where automotive transmissions experience the most stress to ensure that designs are as safe as possible.
Linux Networx Supersystems are ideally suited to meet the compute needs of commercial companies moving to leverage the power of supercomputing to enhance product design efforts. Linux Networx Supersystems are tuned to support multiple commercial applications including CFD, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and crash/impact analysis. These applications demand high performance cost-effective compute and visualization systems. In the industry-standard MPP-Dyna Three Vehicle Collision and Fluent FL5L3 benchmarks, the Linux Networx 128 CPU LS-1 Supersystem surpassed all other comparable published results. Linux Networx automotive customers include Audi, BMW, DaimlerChrysler and many others.
